Ellensburg, May 3. The first stage sent out by the Ellensburg & Okanogan Transportation Company left here yesterday morning, fully loaded, and made the trip to Rock Island in eight hours.
There the steamer City of Ellensburg was lying with steam up. The passengers were taken on board and she started up the Columbia bound for Okanogan river and way places. The boat as refitted by Peters & Donaher is said to be excellent and the boat easily passed muster before the government inspectors.
Though allowed 180 pounds of steam she met every requirement with 115 pounds, and then had power to spare. The demand for freight rates indicates that shippers realize that this is the shortest and quickest way into the Okanogan region. especially from the West.
People can leave the Sound on the night overland train, meet the 6:30 stage here, be in Wenatchee in less than twenty-four hours after starting, and reach the Okanogan mines forty-eight hours sooner than by any other route.
By the present time table stages leave here on Mondays and Thursdays; returning, leave Ruby on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
