Hartline
In 1888, the town of Parnell was located on the railroad survey line of the Seattle, Lake Shore & Eastern railroad about 4.5 miles SE of Hartline. In 1889, D. F. Reeves and E. J. Brower established a store, which was the only business in Parnell.
In the spring of 1889, John W. Hartline took up the quarter section of land where the town of Hartline will be. He built a cabin just east of the historic Hartline School. In 1890, Mr. Reeves, opened a store in Hartline and abandoned his store over at Parnell.
Reeves was counting on the Central Washington railroad making it to Hartline before the Seattle Lake Shore & eastern did. He chose correctly as the Seattle Lake Shore & Eastern never made it past Davenport. When he moved his store, the post office was moved as well and the town was then officially named Hartline.
